Highlander Reboot is Imminent

Chad Stahelski, director of John Wick recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and gave his updates on the reboot of the Highlander franchise with Henry Cavill taking on the role of Connor McCleod, that’s been bouncing around since 2016.

Stahelski went on record to say, “We have ideas for days about how to make the coolest characters and to make that an epic TV show. I just think that's a rich, rich mythology. When you can pick any period in time, any nationality, any culture, any type of person and make them an immortal that have to duel and deal with the burden of immortality, that's f***ing cool to me. So, my take on it would be to somehow maintain the vibe and mythology and feeling of the first movie. Not go off the rails with too much plot, and really develop the world of the immortals. I don't care what the mortals are doing, I want to be invested in the immortal world and hold true to the original as much as I can."

The Highlander franchise started in 1986, directed by Russel Mulcahy and starred Christopher Lambert as Connor McCleod, Sean Connery as Spaniard/ Egyptian Remirez (complete with Scottish accent) and Clancy Brown as the movies villain, Kurgan. It was critically panned but well received by its audience and has gained a huge cult status (having rewatched it this evening, personally, it doesn’t hold up well).

They subsequently made a further 4 (terrible) movies, as well as a half decent TV series, several games and multiple books.

As and when the reboot comes to fruition, I will report more.
